President's
Message by Ergün Kırlıkovalı

Dear
Members of the Turkish American Community
coast-to-coast:
I
hope you and your family are having a wonderful
holiday season.
It
is customary to reflect upon the departing year at
this time and rejuvenate expectations from the
incoming.
The
year 2011 will go down as eventful, dramatic,
remarkable and rewarding for our community.
But
let's start with top issues around the globe in 2011. They were
international financial crisis, economic downturn,
financial meltdown in Greece threatening Euro-zone
and beyond, global poverty, global warming,
tsunamis, earthquakes, the occupy movement, Arab
spring, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Syria,
Israel, War on Terror, Afghanistan, and more. May
I add that Türkiye was in the middle of almost all
of those issues which must be an indication that
Türkiye has grown beyond a regional power and fast
becoming a global player. - Continue

Association of Turkish Americans in
Nevada - ATA-NV
Association of Turkish Americans in
Nevada (ATA-NV) was established in Las Vegas, Nevada in
2005. In 2011, ATA-NV has changed its way to run a
non-profit organization. Instead of traditional
non-profit understanding, ATA-NV has begun shaping the
organization more like a business model. Las Vegas is
known as convention city and many conventions,
conferences, seminars handled in the heart of the city
every year. ATA-NV took advantage of this opportunity
and began playing an influential role as an organization
that connects Turkish Americans in Las Vegas to
Turkish businesses from other parts of the US, Türkiye
and other countries.

Remembers Yavuz Boray
Yavuz
Boray, 61, has passed away on December 23, 2011 in
Istanbul, Turkey from complications related to Pick's
Disease. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35
years Ilknur Boray, his son Dost Kayihan, daughter April
Ayse and son-in law Atil, his cousin Nezih Pistar,
nieces, nephews, mother-in-law and friends he made over
the years in Washington, DC and Istanbul. He is also
survived by three grandchildren, between the ages 5
years and 5 months, who will know him through his
collection of music, home videos, and photographs. We
remember his love for traveling, camping, theater,
cinema, music, and sports. He was a proud graduate of
Darussafaka High School in Istanbul, Johns Hopkins
University (S.A.I.S) (which brought him to Washington,
DC in 1977) and Georgetown University. An original cast
member in the Turkish productions of "Hair" and "Kesanli
Ali Destani" in the 1960s, he also played soccer in
clubs in Turkey, Italy and Maryland from the 1960s to
early 1990s, and was an enthusiastic volunteer during
the 1994 World Cup. During his 15 years as an economist
at the World Bank he traveled in South & Central
America. He was a dedicated volunteer in the Turkish
community, producing a Turkish radio show in the 1980s
for American Turkish Association of DC and a Turkish
news show in the 1990s on local cable TV. With his
intellegence, wit, determined spirit he opened many
doors for his family, and for this we are most
grateful.
