ATAA Celebrates the
90th Anniversary of
Turkish Victory Day -
Zafer Bayramı
On August 30, 2012, we
celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the Victory at
Dumlupinar, which was the final battle of the
Turkish War of Independence against the occupying
forces of Britain, France, Italy and Greece.
Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in
World War I (1914-1918), the final chapter of the
Ottoman Empire (1299-1923) ended. First came the
violent occupation by the Allied Forces and their
proxies (1918-1922) and then the infamously racist
Treaty of Sevres (1920) which attempted to
maintain a servile sultan to administer and exile
the Turkish Muslims and Jews, while dividing the
Turkish peninsula among the allies. This meant
handing southern Turkey to France, the Turkish
Riviera and Aegean Islands to Italy, western
Turkey to Greece, and Istanbul and the straits to
Britain. Continue |

Call for a greater U.S.
cooperation with Turkey
in its struggle against the
PKK
In August
2012, Congressmen Ed Whitfield (R-KY) and Alcee Hastings
(D-FL) introduced House Resolution 772 that reaffirms
U.S. support for Turkey's struggle against the terrorist
Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)/Kongra-Gel. In June 2012,
Senators Joe Lieberman (CT), John McCain (R-AZ), Jeanne
Shaheen (D-NH) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced a
similar resolution 486 in the U.S. Senate. Join

PKK terrorist attacks against Turkey, to voice your
support for H.Res. 772 and S. Res. 486, and to call for
a greater U.S. support to Turkey's struggle against the
PKK.

Fallen
Turkish diplomat honoured at
memorial
Ottawa Citizen, August 27, 2012 -
Dozens of Turkish-Canadians, diplomats and friends
gathered on the grass by the intersection at Island Park
Drive and the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway on Sunday to
commemorate a solemn day in Ottawa's history. It
was near that very location, 30 years ago, that Turkish
military attaché Col. Atilla Altikat, 45, was
assassinated, becoming the first victim of international
terrorism on Canadian soil. On Aug. 27, 1982, Altikat
was driving to the Turkish Embassy. - Continue
