Defend U.S. Policy to End Isolation of Turkish Cypriots

Dear Friends and Members of the Turkish-American Community,

On June 14, 2012, the Presidents of America's leading Turkish and Turkic-American grassroots organizations, including the Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA), Federation of Turkish American Associations (FTAA), Turkish American Community Centers and Mosques (TACC), Azerbaijani-American Council (AAC), and Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA), which represent over 500,000 Turkish Americans and 300,000 Turkic-Americans nationwide, sent a joint letter to Congress opposing House Resolution 676.

H.Res. 676, introduced by Representative Gus Bilirakis of Florida, panders to Hellenic nationalism. It denies the native Turkish Cypriots equality, cultural rights, and economic rights. H.Res. 676 also accuses people of Turkish heritage of "colonizing" the island of Cyprus, denying the islands centuries Turkish and Muslim heritage.

H.Res. 676 is no better than the racist rallies of Greek Cypriot Minister Yorgadjis, who in 1962 called for massacres against Turkish Cypriots: "There is no place on this island for anyone who is not Greek, who does not think Greek, and who does not constantly feel Greek!"

We urge you to join the Pax Turcica Capwiz Action to contact your Representative and stop H. Res. 676. Please click here to read the ATAA Northern Cyprus Fact Finding Mission Report.
