World Food Day Photo Competition for Children

The Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) and Empowering the Turkish American Community (ETAC-USA), formally associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC), are organizing a photography contest to celebrate this important event.

This competition will create an excellent platform to promote the richness of Turkish cuisine and its understanding of sustainability worldwide, while increasing children’s creativity and cultural awareness.

Purpose and Theme

 Purposes

  • To promote Turkish culture and gastronomy on a global scale.
  • To show the diversity and historical roots of Turkish cuisine.
  • Emphasizing the healthy and sustainable (zero waste) features of Turkish food.
  • To develop children’s creative thinking skills and connect them to cultural heritage.

Theme

  • Children will pose in the traditional clothes of that region along with the traditional food of that region.
  • The photo will be taken at the dinner table and other foods of the region may also be included on the table.
  • The photo will be accompanied by a description of the recipe of the dish and its healthy, sustainable features.

 

Competition Rules and Categories

Participation Conditions

  • Participation is free.
  • Each participant can send only one photo.
  • Photo submission must be in digital format. The minimum photo requirement is JPG or PNG, 4 at 300ppi. Both color and black and white photos will be accepted.
  • The recipe for the meal and a text explaining the healthy and sustainable features of the meal should be sent along with the photo.
  • Photos must be sent with the permission of the parents.

  • 6-9 years old
  • 10-12 years old

 

Participants Must Register!

 In order to participate in the photography competition, it is necessary to register online at forms.gle/u5GtiG3zCGQLfdvj9 or via entry form by September 11, 2024. After submitting the entry form, please email your photography with your contact information to photocompetition@ataa.org.

Participants are allowed to submit artworks to the contest that have not received awards in any previous contests.

  1. The participant agrees to participate in the contest with an original (not copied/stolen) work.
  2. The copyright of all works belongs to ATAA and ETAC-USA. ATAA and ETAC-USA have the right to use the pictures for any product it will prepare. No payment is made to the participants who receive awards.
  3. ATAA and ETAC-USA are a non-profit corporation under US law. Copyrights cannot be sold.
  4. ATAA and ETAC-USA do not act as an intermediary in requests for commercial use of the works for any reason.
  5. ATAA and ETAC-USA have the right to publish the awarded works on its website, social media, written and other visual media.
  6. ATAA and ETAC-USA may exhibit the awarded works in other exhibitions it deems appropriate. ATAA and ETAC-USA do not obtain permission from the award-winning participant for this.
  7. ATAA and ETAC-USA have the right to use the photographs for any product it will prepare. ATAA and ETAC-USA do not make a separate payment to the owners for these photographs.
  8. All rights arising from commercial reasons and all copyrights of the awarded works belong to ATAA and ETAC-USA.
  9. First degree relatives of the members of the jury cannot participate.

 

Copyright

  1. The participants are deemed to have declared that they accepted the conditions of participation by applying for the photography contest on World Food Day. Works that are found to be unsuitable for any of the participation conditions will be banned from the contest by the commission.
  2. Works that are determined to be copied or stolen will not be evaluated by the contest jury. The jury reserves the right to consider any work worthy of an award, and if a work is found to be copied or stolen, the award will be revoked. In such instances, the participant is required to return the certificate and monetary award. This situation does not grant new rights to other participants.
  3. The legal and financial expenses of any problems that may arise during participation in the contest belong to the contestant. The contest organization is not responsible for any problems that may arise.

  1. Presentation and visual appeal of the food (20 points)
  2. Authenticity of local clothes (20 points)
  3. Recipe details and description of healthy/sustainable features (30 points)
  4. General composition and aesthetics of the photo (30 points)
